DNS Lookup Examples · Example 1 of 3 in Special Answers
A Name Without Records of the Requested Type
An A lookup of a name that exists but has no A record: rcode NOERROR, with raw and values null.
Asks for the A records of _dmarc.google.com, a name that exists (it holds the TXT record of the DMARC example) but has no A record.
The lookup succeeds (conn_status: success, rcode: NOERROR) but returns nothing: raw and values are null. This is what any requested type without records looks like. Compare the next example, where the name does not exist at all and rcode is NXDOMAIN.
