Rate limits depend on your plan and apply **per API key and per endpoint**. Unless your plan says
otherwise, the default is **1 request per second**.

Responses tell you where you stand. For the current window:

- `ratelimit-limit`
- `ratelimit-remaining`
- `ratelimit-reset`

For each window configured on your plan:

- `x-ratelimit-limit-second`
- `x-ratelimit-limit-minute`
- `x-ratelimit-limit-hour`
- `x-ratelimit-remaining-second`
- `x-ratelimit-remaining-minute`
- `x-ratelimit-remaining-hour`

Over the limit, the API returns **429 Too Many Requests**. Wait `ratelimit-reset` seconds before you
retry. Some endpoints, such as lookups, also count against a quota on your plan: one unit per request.

See [Rate limits](/getting-started/rate-limits/) and the
[429 example](/getting-started/errors/#429-rate-limit-exceeded).
